When I read about topic of this exercise, I just remembered a conversation I had in my recent trip to Berlin. The fact is that in Berlin, as most of you know, one of the most successful fast food restaurants are from Turkish people, the famous “Doner Kebabs”.
The surprise was that I discovered that the doner kebab, something like pitta bread stuffed with grilled meat, salad and sauce, was original from Berlin, where a Turkish immigrant created it and founded the chain of fast food restaurants called like the name, as we know this dish. From then, the “Doner Kebabs” spread by Turkish immigrants all over the world.
Therefore, that make me think about the real origin of some of the food we consider as typical or native from our country. Because, which is the origin of the products we use to cook them? Alternatively, where were the cooks who created these dishes from?
We could learn interesting facts or even inflection points of the history of our country just observing the origin of the ingredients and the way they are elaborated. Such example we can take the Spanish omelette, made with potatoes, between other ingredients, which were imported from the American continent.
To sum up, the food can lead us to learn more about the countries and discover amazing aspects of the people who live there.
