Catalan food and eating costumes have changed a lot. To begin with, in my grandparent’s times Catalan people usually had a big breakfast. It consisted of beans with sausage (botifarra). They usually had “paella” (rice with meat, vegetables or fish) or “escudella” (meat and vegetable stew) for lunch and “pa amb tomaquet” (Bread spread with tomato) for dinner. Nowadays people do not eat as much pulse as some time ago. They eat more foreign, frozen and ready-prepared food than before.
I like to cook and eat cous-cous, “quinoa”… and sometimes I eat pizza or Chinese food (especially when I go to restaurant).
My opinion about it is that food changes represented social changes: Style of life (People does not have time to cook, women usually work …), globalization… There is not leisure time to cook and eat.
I think it is partly true that is good that everybody has the chance to taste international cooking. On the one hand, it is not good to lose the traditions of minority cultures and the delicious taste of the locally grown vegetables. Moreover fast food, mass-produced food, genetically modified…is not healthy. Fast food, for example, usually contains a lot of fat. Our body prefers a good quality food, fresh and natural.
