Life in rural areas of Catalonia has experimented important changes in the last years. More and more, people there do not ignore the last advances in technology, but they also have learned how to make use of their benefits in order to technology helps them in their work in farms and countries. These changes have influenced the eating habits but less than could be thought.
Several years ago, people in rural Catalonia got their aliments from their own growing and farm animals. However, now almost everybody in Catalan countryside work in order to do well out of the selling of their harvests or their animals. Because of this, raw material in their food is different now, since they have to buy most of the ingredients they need for their recipes. In the past, people here only could eat the aliments according to the season of the year. Now most of these aliments can be bought all year around.
This important advantage together with the use of fridges and freezers has allowed rural people to have a more varied diet independently of the season of the year. Nevertheless, despite this, rural areas inhabitants, loyal to their traditions, have not changed the essence of their cooking and are stubborn to introduce foreign tastes and textures.
