MATRIMONI

ETNOMARALCSELEGNAAIRAM

Many years ago, the grocer’s shop had only local and season products. Our feeding was very tedious. Many new products are being introduced in shopping basket during the last years. Avocado pears, couscous, and all sorts of foreign cheese form part of our diet.

Several friends of mine do not like the exotic food, why cannot we go to a Japanese, Chinese or Indian restaurant, why not even go to a Greek restaurant, which uses ingredients much similar as the locals.

All of us are eating new recipes. Taboule, kebab, antipasto, musaka, shusi, and tempura are not rare in the domestic menu. I ate in Roma a “Spaghetti a la vongole” which I ate every week home. I cook “taboule” which is couscous and butter, lemon juice and raw vegetables like onions, tomatoes and red peppers. We have been eating that all summer.

The cooking have progressed all history round. We identify the “Gazpacho” with the tomatoes. Several are cooking gazpacho and strawberry or beetroot. It was made without tomatoes before the discovery of America.

I believe that the mixing of different country cooking is very positive. It improves the curiosity and the understanding among the people.

Primero: TÚ no entiendes cómo llegó ahí...

ODARDAUCOINOTNA

Globalization has changed the world. American way of life has been exported from side to side on earth. In the past, they conquered countries with their military industry and today they do the same with the cultural industry by means of their films and their own tales.

First, they showed us how to live with their fiction stories on screen (cinema, television…etc.) and afterwards they brought big corporations like cinemas, shops and, of course, American restaurants or fast food restaurants.

It was a great change, a slow change but definitive. We can remember when young people thought that American products were bad. We do not like those products because they are a domination American symbol. For example, you could not say that you like burgers and Coca Cola because everybody said that they were Yankee products. Spanish young people loved England in the sixties but they hated USA because it was an imperialist country.

Nowadays American food is available throughout the world, even in Moscow Red Square you can find a Burger King. I have no doubt that every time a Third World’s child drinks a Coke, he feels like a child of the First World.

Finally, we have lost this battle. Young people love fast food and we cannot do anything to change this situation. “Super Size Me” is just a funny movie against the Hollywood’s cinema factory.
